Counselling / Psychotherapy

Kulsum Cares Psychotherapy Practice aims to provide a safe space for each and every client. This is the place to talk about your mental health and work towards your mental health goals.

We are here to help you cope better and build long lasting coping skills.

I am a compassionate social worker providing therapy to clients struggling with challenging life experiences. It can be difficult to cope when experiencing stress, depression, anxiety, interpersonal conflict, or low self-esteem. I approach the therapeutic process from an anti-oppressive, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed lens. I hope to build a judgment-free and compassionate space with you when working through challenging and sensitive issues. Healing is a non-linear process, and my hope is to engage in a journey with you that deepens your self-awareness while developing effective coping strategies. In my practice, my role is to collaboratively work with you to foster resiliency, a better connection to your authentic self, and support you in navigating life challenges, through curiosity, compassion, and empowerment.

I offer collaborative and integrative client centred therapy to young adults, adults, and seniors experiencing a range of concerns but not limited to depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, interpersonal conflict, racial identity, stress management, relationship difficulty, and more. I utilize varying modalities including a strengths-based framework, anti-oppressive lens, and solution focused therapy. I draw on evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and more.

I strive to provide a safer space where we can work to overcome your challenges and move toward your goals. I am committed to being open and curious about your life, while also offering tools that will help you cope, and problem solve. Recognizing you need support is courageous, and you’ve already taken the first step by reading my page. I invite you to reach out so we can get to know one another. You don’t have to go on this journey alone!

My goal is to support individuals who feel they are tangled up in life, and their past is interfering into their present. I am a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers with over 13 years of experience working with individuals, couples, families, and children and youth.

I approach my work from a client-centered perspective, offering evidence-based therapy for a wide range of emotional and adjustment difficulties. My focus lies on trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally competent practices.

When it comes to therapy, there is no “one size fits all” approach. Thus, I employ a holistic and eclectic approach using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), family systems, and solution focused / brief modalities. I have honed my skills in developing goal-directed therapy plans that effectively address mental health concerns, improve family dynamic, and relational issues.

As a proud Bangladeshi-Canadian, I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients to explore how their faith, culture, race, gender, and relationships impacts their lives. You might think your “problem” is too small to connect with a therapist, but if you’re ready for change, then that’s BIG!

In summary, I am a down-to-earth, compassionate, and engaging therapist who is committed to helping you navigate life’s challenges. Together, we can untangle the knots and create a brighter and more fulfilled future.
